Gamer picture viewer

clipped from www.xbox360fanboy.com
So, you’ve got a shiny new Xbox 360 and you’re all set up to play except for one thing: your Gamer Picture. It’s an important step in creating your online identity after all. Heck, even veterans like to change things up once in a while. So, if you find yourself still saddled with stupid green circles or that weird Darth Vader skull thing, we’ve got just the solution for you. Introducing the Gamerpic Scout from MyGamerCard.net. More or less, the Scout is simply a Gamerpic search engine. Just enter a word — “zombie” for example — and you’ll be directed to all the Gamerpics associated with that word (you can also search for pics by Gamertag). Click on one of the icons that pops up — let’s say Master Chief from Halo 3 — and it will tell you how much it costs and whether or not it’s still available.

When connected to a 3G digital cellular telephone network (generally EV-DO), speeds average out at 400-800 Kbps with bursts up to 2.4 Mbps. When no 3G signals are available, the Airbox will switch to 2G and average speeds of 120 Kbps. HD DVD player at Wal-Mart for $98

clipped from www.dailytech.com
Just as the market was getting used to the idea of a sub-$200 HD DVD player, the looming promise of crazy sales for this holiday season has driven high-definition movie hardware at levels never thought possible.
Believe it or not Wal-Mart is advertising that it will sell the Toshiba HD-A2 this Friday for $98.87. The holiday-themed ad calls the sale this Friday the “Secret In-Store Specials.” The Toshiba HD-A2 is asterisked with the notes saying that the product may not be available in all stores and that it will be while quantities last – suggesting that there could be a limited number set aside as a “doorcrasher” item.
The third-generation Toshiba HD-A3 will also be soon selling at $169.99 at Sears during its Black Friday sale, according to blackfriday.info. The player currently sells for $299.99.

The next image standard - JPEG XR format

clipped from www.downloadsquad.com
Microsoft HD Photo header infoImage compression technology has come a long way since the JPEG standard was set in the 90s. But JPEG is still the standard used by most digital cameras.

Microsoft has been lobbying hard to make its HD Photo format (also known as Windows Media Photo) the new standard. And it looks like the Joint Photographic Experts Group, the group behind the JPEG file format, have approved a plan to rename HD Photo “JPEG XR” and to make the format a new standard of sorts.

We don’t expect old fashioned JPG images to disappear overnight, but HD Photo files can show a higher range of colors, supports in-camera image processing, and offers more advanced compression techniques than today’s JPEG files.

Show me your Google phone face

clipped from www.labnol.org

The first “official” details about Google Phone Software and Android, the open mobile platform from WP:

1. Motorola, Samsung, HTC and and LG Electronics have agreed to use Google’s software in some of their phones.

2. Google Phone Software will be available only in second half of 2008.

3. Google won’t be making the phones, nor does it plan to stamp its prized brand on the devices. Consumers will have to buy a new phone to get the Google software because the bundle wasn’t made for existing handsets.

4. Speech recognition and voice based search will be powered by Nuance software that also makes Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

5. Google’s phone software will be free unlike Palm, Nokia, Microsoft of RIM (BlackBerry) who charge handset makers to install their operating systems.

6. The prices of smart phones running Google Phone software would be less since manufacturers won’t have to pay for software.
